Note 445 — LIBRO SECONDO. DAL RITORNO ALLA VITA PRIVATA ED AGLI STUDI SINO ALLA MORTE DEL MACHIAVELLI. (1513-1527)

I, pag. 10-11), dice: «The proposition that a historical era of aristocracies succeded a historical era of heroic kings, may be considered as true, if not of all mankind, at all events of all branches of the Indo-European family of nations.» E poco prima aveva osservato, parlando degli ottimati, i quali successero ai re: «Unless they were prematurely overthrown by the popular party, they all ultimately approached very closely to what we should now understand by a political aristocracy.»
