Note 430 — Chapter VI

Reading edition

Atlas zur Entdeckungsgeschichte Amerikas, by Kunstmann and others, Munich, 1859, Plate xiii. [The original is said, in Markham’s Davis’s Voyages, p. 361, to be preserved in Dudley’s own copy of the Arcano del Mare, at Florence. The large map of 1593 in Historiarum Indicarum Libri xvi. Maffeii, also gives place to Norumbega; as does Wytfliet’s edition of Ptolemy, 1597. The Speculum Orbis-terrarum of Cornelius de Judaeis, published at Antwerp, 1593, has a map, “Americæ pars borealis, Florida, Baccalaos, Canada, Corterealis.” The German edition of Acosta, 1598, gives a map of Norumbega and Virginia, making them continuous. Carter-Brown Catalogue, nos. 517, 520.—Ed.]
