Delisle was born in 1688 and died in 1747; Buache lived from 1700 to 1773. Other cartographical solutions of the same data are found in William Doyle’s Account of the British Dominions beyond the Atlantic (London, 1770), and in the Mémoires sur la situation des pays septentrionaux, by Samuel Éngel, published at Lausanne in 1765. Engel’s maps were repeated in a German translation of his book published in 1772, and in his Extraits raisonés des Voyages faits dans les parties septentrionales de l’Asie et de l’Amérique, also published at Lausanne in 1779.
