Cabet, Étienne (1788-1856), was a French communist, one of the leaders of the Carbonari, and author of a philosophical and social romance Voyage en Icarie, describing a Communist Utopia. In 1848 a band of French workmen went out to found an ‘Icarian colony’ in Texas.—(Translator’s Note.)
