Reading edition
The Jennë Moor told Mr. Hutchison, “the Quolla was the largest river in the world, and about 5 miles wide, having a very rocky channel, the banks on both sides very high, and rugged: in many parts canoes often take a day to cross, from the dangerous whirlpools, and sudden squalls; at other places the stream runs with great rapidity. The houses in its environs are either terraced or shingled, as thatch cannot resist the frequent high winds.”
