Note 160 — Chapter IV

Reading edition

As mentioned in our narrative, p. 182, it was to a “fallen timber” on the Bloody Way between Forts Hamilton and St. Clair that Girty with a party of Indians went in the fall of 1792 on a raiding expedition. The name is preserved, at least in one instance, in West Virginia in Fallen Timber Run, Wetzel County. The modern spelling is “Fallen Timbers.”
