This inscription is discussed in the Dorset Nat. Hist. and Antiquarian Field Club’s Proceedings, vol. xxv., 191 ff. It announces an indulgence to those passers-by who pray for the soul of the deceased abbot (possibly William de Stokes, who died in 1256).
