Note 104 — DERBYSHIRE FOLK-LORE

Reading edition

As regards “Mirryland town,” it appears that the soil of the Morayland, in North-East Scotland, is gravelly, and much improved by summer rains. Hence the distich:—

A misty May and a dropping June Brings the bonny land of Moray aboon.

—Chambers, Popular Rhymes of Scotland, new ed., p. 269.
