John Montagu, Earl of Sandwich, made a Lord of the Admiralty on the coalition, and First Lord, on the Duke of Bedford’s being appointed Secretary of State. He signed the peace of Aix-la-Chapelle. [He was First Lord during Lord North’s administration, and died 1792. Our author disparages his abilities. He was a lively, sensible man, attentive to business, and not a bad speaker in Parliament.]—E.
