Note 19 — Chapter V · THE CAROLINGIANS AND THE TENTH CENTURY
Reading edition
Chapter IV. C. 3. Compare, in the same volume of MGH, Refulget omnis luce mundus aurea (137); in volume III, O tu qui servas armis ista mœnia (703, late eighth century); in AH 51: 121, Adnue, Christe, sæculorum Domine; and, in Duemmler’s Rhythmorum eccl. ævi carolini specimen (Berlin, 1881), Audi me deus, peccatorem nimium (6), and Agnus et leo, mitis et terribilis (12). These instances taken together seem to me to make against W. Meyer’s different reading (Spanisches zur Geschichte der ältesten mittellateinischen Rythmik, 111) of the poem below as a “rhythmic pentameter.”
