Note 21 — Chapter VII · LATIN POETIC IN THE TWELFTH AND THIRTEENTH CENTURIES

Reading edition

For this medieval textbook see Hamilton (G. L.) in Modern Philol. VII (1909), 169-185. The work, which is of the middle of the ninth century, is assigned by Manitius (I. 570) to Godescalc, as the name suggests. It is called an eclogue because of the matching of pagan with Christian instances between Pseustis and Alethia, with final appeal to Phronesis. John of Salisbury alludes to it, Metalogicus, 859 C.
