Note 536 — MEDICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL ILLUSTRATIONS OF INSANITY.

Reading edition

Dr. Burrows, in his “Inquiry into certain errors relative to Insanity,” has taken a comprehensive view of this important question, in which he attempts to prove that a very large proportion of the insane recover the perfect use of their understanding, and in elucidation he has submitted a comparative table of cures, comprising returns from all the public lunatic asylums in England, and likewise all the returns from Scotland that are accessible. To this work we must refer the reader. The statistical branch of this subject has been greatly elucidated by Dr. Powell, the Secretary to the Commissioners for licensing mad-houses; and we are happy in being authorised to state that the public may shortly expect an important publication from the same author, in which the views of Dr. Burrows will probably be duly examined.
