Mahatma Gandhi

Note 50 — ROMAIN HOLLAND

Catherine Dase Groth translation

Etymology: Satya, just right; Agraha, attempt, effort. Hence, Satyagraha, a just effort, in the sense of meaning non-acceptation of or resistance to injustice. Gandhi defines it, November 5, 1919, as meaning "holding on to truth, hence, truth-force." And he adds, "I have also defined it as love-force or soul-force."
