Luther, vol. 2 of 6

Note 9 — Chapter XI

E. M. Lamond translation

Text in Luther’s “Briefwechsel,” 2, p. 409 (better than in Böcking, 1, p. 355). At the head of the letter are the words, “Vive libertas.” The phrase, “Iubet ad se venire N. te, si tutus istic satis non sis,” must refer to Sickingen. Before this, Hutten says: “Si vi ingruent, vires erunt adversum, non tantum pares, sed, ut spero, superiores etiam.”
