En toen de reis was afgeloopen, schreef de kapitein van de Pandora nog eens aan zijn vriend Jansen: „Lieutenant Beynen leaves us with the regret of all his messmates and the Pandora’s ship’s-company. He has thoroughly distinguished himself. For my part if I again sail in those seas, which is quite possible, there is nothing that would give me more pleasure than to have him again with us. I hope however for his own sake that ere that time arrives, the Netherlands Government will decide to equip an expedition and that Beynen will be appointed to a high place in it, for if success depends upon talent, energy and good seamanship, I am sure that he could carry any undertaking through to a successful issue”.4
