Note 2 — LECTURES ON ANCIENT ETHNOGRAPHY AND GEOGRAPHY.
Leonhard Schmitz translation
The MS. notes contain very little about these maps, but what I recollect Niebuhr to have said agrees in the main with the opinion expressed in the Lectures on Rom. Hist. vol. iii. p. xciv., except that in the present Lectures he treated the matter more with ridicule, saying, e.g., that such men are immortalised even by having their portraits engraved on copper (in some Geographical Journal).—Ed.
