—74. Hôtel de Ville, City Hall. This magnificent structure, begun in 1533, was blown up and burned by the Communists, May 24, 1871. Many valuable works of art were thereby destroyed, as well as the library containing almost 100,000 volumes and many precious public documents, thus causing an irreparable loss.
