Note 38 — Chapter IX

Reading edition

A water-colour drawing of ‘Rock, Moss, and Ivy’ by K. G. is now in the Sheffield Museum. Of its origin the catalogue says ‘The sketch was made by Miss Greenaway in consequence of Mr. Ruskin having told her one day at Brantwood, that she could draw pretty children daintily enough but she couldn’t make a drawing of that rock. Miss Greenaway hastily produced this study of it, and presented it to Mr. Ruskin.’
