Reading edition

James’s speech to both Houses, published by his order, May 10, and the Parliament’s address in reply are in the appendix to Leslie’s Answer to King. The latter document has no allusion to the King’s pronouncement about the Act of Settlement. A French version of the speech was sent by Avaux to Louis XIV. on May 8/18.
