Note 1 — SECTION V LUTHERAN HYMNOLOGY 1520—

The first Lutheran hymn book was “Etlich Christliche Lieder” of 1524. This little hymn book may have been published without Luther’s assistance. Perhaps the most important hymn book, containing a number of Luther’s hymns, was “Geistliches Gesangbuechlein” of 1524. “Enchiridion oder ein Handbuechlein” appeared in 1524. Other important hymn books appeared in 1526, 1531, and 1535.
