Statement of Lieutenant Mayne—MS. Correspondence of Officers on the Staff of General Nott.—The only apologetic explanation of this which has yet reached me is to be found in the assertion, that Mayne’s escort crowded on Nott’s staff. Mayne posted his horsemen on the reverse flank, and it is his belief that they were not in the way of the staff.
