Note 297 — Chapter I
Reading edition
“The city of Hyderabad,” says Dr. James Burnes, in his Visit to the Court of Sindh, an interesting and valuable work, “is a collection of wretched low mud hovels, as destitute of the means of defence as they are of external elegance or internal comfort; and even the boasted stronghold of the Ameer, which surmounts their capital, is but a paltry erection of ill-burnt bricks, crumbling gradually to decay, and perfectly incapable of withstanding for an hour the attack of regular troops.”
