Reading edition
Sergeant Kimball, of Company F, saved Major Draper's life during the battle. One of the enemy, a soldier of the South Carolina Rifles, was lying behind a log, and had deliberate aim on Major Draper, who was standing exposed to his fire, and was in the act of firing when Sergeant Kimball struck up the musket with his own, and the ball passed through the Major's hat. Soon after this Major Draper received a wound from a rebel sharp-shooter.
