Note 225 — Chapter XI · 1600-1700. DOCTRINES AND MORAL CODE OF THE JESUITS.

Reading edition

Escobar compiled his work of Moral Theology from twenty-four Jesuit authors, and in his preface he finds an analogy betwixt his book and “that in the Apocalypse which was sealed with seven seals,” and states that “Jesus presented it thus sealed to the four living creatures,” Suarez, Vasquez, Molina, and Valencia (four celebrated casuists), in presence of the four-and-twenty Jesuits, who represent the four-and-twenty elders.
