Note CO — Fifth Book

Ernest Brehaut translation

P. 119, c. 15. Chilperic’s enmity to Praetextatus, bishop of Rouen, arose from the latter’s favor for Merovech, Chilperic’s rebellious son. It was at Rouen that Merovech married Brunhilda. The legal side of the trial is hard to follow, the main interest lying in Gregory’s spirited resistance to Chilperic. How Chilperic would have described it might be another story.
