Note VII-16 — Chapter VII · DISSOLUTION OF THE REPUBLIC. 1837-1840.

Reading edition

Carrera himself is described as having on a pair of coarse frieze trousers, and a fine coat with gold embroidery belonging to Gen. Prem, which had been taken by Monreal. For a chapeau the new general wore a woman's hat with a green veil, the property of Prem's wife, who was known as La Colombiana. In lieu of decorations Carrera had on his breast a number of 'escapularios del Cármen,' symbolizing the religion he had come to protect. Montúfar, Reseña Hist., ii. 574.
