On March 17, 1538, according to Gonzalez, Dávila, Teatro Ecles., i. 144. Remesal states that the convent was not formally organized until a year or two later, and quotes an entry in the books of the cabildo dated the 12th of August 1538, from which it appears that certain citizens wished to assist in the building and furnishing of a convent and church for the use of the order. Hist. Chyapa, 148. There is some doubt as to the exact date.
