Note XXXVI‑5 — Chapter XXXVI · THE ITZAS AND LACANDONES. 1601-1700.

Reading edition

The canek does not seem to have regarded the action of Orbita with anger, having merely told them that the time for their work had not yet come, permitting them meanwhile to depart in peace. An Itza chieftain, however, pursued them, and they would have been slain but for the intercession of the Tipu cacique, to whom the Itza leader replied 'con grande enojo: Pues no traygas mas acá otra vez à estos Xolopes, que assi llaman à los Españoles, à desde que vieron à los primeros comer Anonas.' Villagvtierre, Hist. Conq. Itza, 107.
