Note XXXV‑11 — Chapter XXXV · GUATEMALA AND CHIAPAS. 1601-1700.

Reading edition

Gage, who was in Guatemala at the time, in New Survey, 267-8, 282-4, is specific in his statement concerning Guzman as the immediate successor of Gomera and is minute in other references to his conduct. By Juarros the name of Guzman is not mentioned, but 'Diego de Acuña, formerly president of San Domingo,' is named as succeeding Gomara, Guat., 263; and as also in Escamilla, Not. Guat., 3, without any additional particulars however. These authors evidently refer to the same person.
