Note XXX‑25 — Chapter XXX · FURTHER PIRATICAL RAIDS. 1681-1687.

Reading edition

Grogniet sailed away when the Spaniards came in sight. He afterward urged as an excuse that his men would not let him join in the fight. He was cashiered, but was eventually allowed to depart with his ship and men. Id., 208-9. Such is the English account. Lussan, however, states that because Grogniet's ship had no guns and was intercepted by a vessel carrying 28 cannon he was unable to join in the engagement. Journal du Voy., 85-6.
