In another of his letters to Prof. Kaufmann, Zunz mentions the names of two works, the reading of which especially inclined him to the serious study of Jewish historical and literary works. These were the Jewish historical book צמח דוד, by David Gans (1641–1718), and the Bibliotheca Hebraea, by Wolfius (1689–1739).
