Note 84 — Chapter V · Holy Chapels and Holy Wells.

Reading edition

Editor’s Note.—The Brégards or Brégearts were a very old family in the Vale and St. Sampson’s parishes. Early in the sixteenth century one branch of this family bought land at “Vauvert,” St. Peter Port, and became known as “Brégeart, or Briart, alias Vauvert,” and finally simply as “Vauvert.” A curious instance of change of surname.
