Note 313 — Chapter XV

Reading edition

The Tibetans also call them Jang or Aj'angs (འཇངས་). Surely there is some justification for tracing a connection between this word, as spelt in Tibetan, with the name of the tribe A-ch'angs mentioned in the Gazetteer of Upper Burma, pt. i. vol. i. pp. 618-619. But see Sir George Scott's Burma, pp. 94-95.
