Note 45 — A Wakea Creation Chant.
Reading edition
Ua noa i ka haiia, the sacrifice was completed by being offered by Ku, one of the names of Kamehameha. The whole name was Kunuiakea. It was a custom of Kamehameha, perhaps other chieftains, to offer a sacrifice to the gods on gaining a victory. The inference from the poet’s language is that Keoua had been conquered before. ↑
