Pele was born at Hapakuela.36 It is said that this land touches the sky to the southwestward of us. She lived with her parents until she was married. She begat two children, Laka,37 a daughter, and Menehune,38 a son. Wahieloa39 was their father and husband to Pele. But while living together with her husband he was enticed and snatched away from her by Pelekumulani;40 and because she was deprived of her husband she was displeased.
