After the fight Kila returned to his canoe, while Makalii laid on the ground for a period of time sufficiently long to cook an oven (umu) of food; whereupon he arose and staggered to the house. While on his way to the house he congratulated himself on his miraculous escape. This was the last time he was seen on earth, for he returned up above8 and died there.
