On the land of Pukoula which adjoins Waiahao1 in the district of Kona, Oahu, was the home of Pumaia. His chief occupation with that of his wife, was hog raising. They at one time had as many as ten hog pens; but amongst his whole herd [of hogs] there was one he thought a good deal more of than all the others; one that measured over a fathom in length which he had vowed he would never part from. This hog was to be kept until the death of Pumaia when it was to be killed.
