Mazzei in a pamphlet, La Macine a Montughi, gives another derivation; he says that in 1100 the Marchioness Villa left large estates to her son Ugone in this district, and thence the hill was called Montem Hugonis, corrupted into Montui by the common people and into Montughi by writers.
