Reading edition
Morse has stated the average depth at this place (the ferry) to be twenty-five feet. According to him, its average rapidity from thence to Chipeway is six miles an hour, and that at the ferry it is much greater.—Flint.
Comment by Ed. Jedidiah Morse, American Gazetteer (Boston, 1797).
