Note 2116 — Chapter IX · THE FALL OF THE ANGEVINS. 1199–1206.

I cannot understand M. Deville’s idea of this window. In his plan of the castle he marks it about the middle of the south-western side of John’s building—the side looking towards the river. But Will. Armor. Gesta Phil. Aug. (as above·/·Duchesne, Hist. Franc. Scriptt., vol. v.), p. 85, says it was “in latere orientali.” And if it had not been there, how could Bogis, from the foot of the rampart of the first ward, ever have seen it at all?
