Note 1103 — Chapter VI · THE LAST YEARS OF HENRY II. 1183–1189.
Reading edition
Ib. pp. 304, 305. Cf. Rog. Howden as above, pp. 280, 281. According to the Gesta, one of Henry’s contrivances for avoiding the restitution of the dower-lands was to declare that he had bestowed them upon his own wife; and he set her at liberty and made her go through the said lands to demonstrate the fact. If so, however, she was soon put in prison again.
