Note 65 — Chapter IX · SOCIAL EDINBURGH OF YESTERDAY

Reading edition

This is often erroneously called “Old Parliament Hall,” a name that not only limits the uses to which it was habitually put, and thus lessens its interest, but also gives the wrong impression that the Scottish Parliaments were held there, and there only. The Scottish Parliaments were held wherever the King happened to be. If the King was in Edinburgh, they were held in Edinburgh, either at this hall in the Castle, or at the Tolbooth.
