The natural Order to which the madder plant belongs is interesting from the number of its members which supply us with useful products. That valuable medicine, quinine, is obtained from plants belonging to this family, as is also ipecacuanha, and other articles of the materia medica. Coffea arabica, which furnishes the coffee-berry, is another member.
