Note 95 — ZWÖLFTER THEIL BUCH DER REIHE (continued 2)
Karl Eugen Neumann translation
Timete, Superi, fata: tam parvus cinis Herculeus est: huc ille decrevit gigas. O quanta, Titan, in nihil moles abit: Anilis, heu me, recipit Alciden sinus. Hic tumulus illi est. Ecce, vix totam Hercules Complevit urnam; quam leve est pondus mihi, Cui totus aether pondus incubuit leve.
Kürzer gefasst im Hamlet, Todtengräberszene, Schlussverse:
Imperious Caesar, dead and turn’d to clay, Might stop a hole to keep the wind away: O, that that earth which kept the world in awe Should patch a wall t’expel the winter’s flaw!
Auch GOETHES Geistesgruß klingt hier an.
