“Voluntas et intellectus unum et idem sunt.” (Ethics, II, Prop. 49, corollary). In Ethics, III, Prop. 9, scholium, a different view of the will appears; it is there identified with impulse, possibly, as has been conjectured, under the influence of Hobbes.
