Castlereagh aan Liverpool, 6 Febr. 1814 (Ged. VII, 44): „The explanation throughout was received with general satisfaction. The possibility of something being found to give France in exchange for Guadeloupe and the Mauritius was thrown out, and prince Metternich suggested the idea of such a sacrifice on the part of Spain and Holland. I observed that this was a proposition which could not originate with the British government; that it was not their practice to call upon their allies to pay the price of acquisitions made by Great Britain; that I saw no reason why France after such a war should be relieved from all direct sacrifice”.
