De Belgische omwenteling

Note 166) — DERDE HOOFDSTUK.

Reading edition

„H. R. H. is in nowise disposed to renounce his right to the sovereignty of Holland. He even talked of leaving Prince Frederick or one of his sons in that country as Viceroy or with the title of Stadholder, in the event of the present King's death, but said it was too early to advert to such matters; that the principal point was to recover for himself the finest part of the Kingdom, which he hoped to be able to do with the full powers he had received from H. M., and which he often repeated had been far more ample and explicit than he ever hoped to have obtained” (Cartwright 16 Oct.).
