Note 18 — IV. AN EVENING WITH SAM ADAMS.
Reading edition
Historical writers have made a mistake in speaking of Christ Church as the Old North Meetinghouse. They were distinct edifices—Christ Church standing in Salem Street, the Old North fronting North Square. Christ Church is the historic edifice from whose steeple Robert Newman hung the lantern to give notice of the movement of the king’s troops, April, 1775. The Old North was torn down during the siege of Boston.
