Constitutional History of England, Henry VII to George II. Volume 3 of 3

Note 440 — Chapter XVII · ON THE CONSTITUTION OF SCOTLAND—INTRODUCTION OF THE FEUDAL SYSTEM

Reading edition

Spottiswood's Church History, 152; M'Crie's Life of Knox, ii. 6; Life of Melville, i. 143; Robertson's History of Scotland; Cook's History of the Reformation in Scotland. These three modern writers leave, apparently, little to require as to this important period of history; the first with an intenseness of sympathy that enhances our interest, though it may not always command our approbation; the two last with a cooler and more philosophical impartiality.
