Avec acupuncture, avunculaire, becabunga, infundibuliforme, nuncupatif, opuntia, tungstène ou unguis; mais il se prononce un dans hic et nunc. Umble (poisson) est devenu ombre. Quant aux noms propres, on prononce on dans Annunzio, Aruns (que Voltaire écrit Arons), Columbus, Dunciade, Dundee, Duns Scot, Dunstan, Funchal, Humboldt, Northumberland et Cumberland, et même Bunsen; on hésite entre on et un pour Duncan ou Majunga, Lund et Sund, et par suite Stralsund et Bomarsund; mais on prononce un quand le groupe est final, dans Irun, Lescun, Ossun, et même Falun, comme dans Loudun, Melun ou Châteaudun (et Dunkerque); on prononce encore un dans Belsunce ou Humbert, dans Cunctator, dans Brunswick, Gunther et Munster. Quand un ou um n’est pas nasal, u se prononce ou (voir page 125, note 1).
